Not illustrated. 1909 Excerpt: ...490 and 491 of the Penal Law, the reference reads "upon the society mentioned in section two hundred and ninety-three of the Penal Code," and since the society therein mentioned is mentioned in both §§ 490 and 491 of the Penal Law, a reference to one section only is needed. 29. § 768. The reference to § 291 of the Penal Code is changed to § 486 of the Penal Law, since that part of § 291 which relates to a judgment of commitment has been made § 486 of the Penal Law. 30. § 789. The reference to a "police justice" is changed to "city magistrate," inasmucli as city magistrates have superseded police justices in the city of New York. See L. 1895, Ch. 601, § 3, and L. 1897, Ch. 378, § 1393. 31. § 875. The reference to " the second subdivision of section eight hundred and fifty-nine" is changed to refer to "the second subdivision of section eight hundred and fifty" to correct an obvious error. There are no subdivisions in § 859 and the provision that a magistrate may make "an order of filiation" is contained in the second subdivision of § 850. 32. § 888. The reference to § 291 of the Penal Code is changed to § 486 of the Penal Law, since that part of § 291 which authorizes a magistrate to commit a child has been placed in § 486 of the Penal Law. 33. § 889. The word "sections" changed to "subdivisions" to correct obvious error and to make the reference agree with that which follows in the same section, viz.: "in one of such subdivisions," and with the references to § 887 contained in §§ 894 and 898, viz.: "in the seventh subdivision of section eight hundred and ei...
